Here are some resources that I’ve found useful as an artist based in Auckland , NZ.

I’ll be adding to this regularly .

Materials

I’m a big fan of liquitex, both the full bodied and the flow .

I’m always trying different painting mediums but the ones I come back to are the Liquitex Acrylic matt medium. I also like the Golden gloss medium / glazing fluid.

For paints I use a mix of brands of acrylic - Liquitex, Atelier, Golden and Schmincke

Framing

For the last 6 years I have been using my local framers- Homestead Picture framers based in Henderson. They are very professional and always offer advice on the best way to frame an artwork. They can get busy at times but will always give you a clear time you will be able to collect.

I have received I have written a blog post about different kinds of framing here

Prints

For artists who want to get prints made, Artist Services’ provide an amazing service, printing using archival inks and a range of papers. They also offer a service where they send direct to your customer.

Photography

I use Sait Akkerman at Arts diary to get high quality images made of my paintings. I take my paintings to his studio where he photographs each one, making sure that the colour on the screen exactly matches the colour in the painting.

Podcasts

Artist Pep Talk -Andy J Pizza who is full of ways to inspire and look at things a different way. Every single episode I find myself laughing but also come away with some gem of knowledge which actually helps me.

Business/Technology

I made my own website using Squarespace . It was easy to get a simple website set up quickly without any help as it’s all drag and drop. Doing it myself I get to change things around all the time. They offer a free trial so that you can try it out.

For my newsletter I use Mailchimp which I am happy with and you don’t begin to pay until you have a certain number of followers.
